Selvaraaju’s Pensive

Community Festival March 20, 2008

 I started walking towards City of Whittlesea Public gardens at 7 am. I arrived late to the venue by 5 minutes. I was incharge for site & stage decoration from 9 am. After filling some forms, Brooke introduced me to Sunshine.

I jumped in to Sunshine car to meet Kat, whose is incharge of decoration. I had lots of fun in working with Kat. I learnt a lot after chating with Kat. She is a PhD student from Victoria Uni and she is well known for her community service.

Everything looked fascinating and I enjoyed being a volunteer. I helped lot of peoples by providing information about the evernts and venue.

My duty was at  Information desk and I met Lauren & ludiya (volunteers). They helped me a lot to accustom to the environment.  Peoples festive mood is great and sun was ready at that time to take the revenge on the peoples’ mood by expanding its presence. The temperature was horrible and still 1 litre of sunscreen is not enough…

Most of the volunteers drank too much of water and they were regularly taking breaks to attend the nature’s call !!! ( jus kidding). I ate egg & bacon even though I am a vejjo(vegetarian).  The best part of my enjoyment was when a team of girls wearing T-shirt that says “Free Hugs” , hugged me voluntarily. I was over the moon as it was a new experience.

I was never been hugged by any women other than my comely Mother & other relatives. The hug lasted for 2 sec but I still felt some strange thing happening to me.  That hug eroded away my worries. Thanks to those great women.. ( I write aout the hug therapy in my next blog).

They met Plenty Valley FM team and talked to RJs. I saluted Brooke & Sunshine when I departed. I must thank Emma who helped me a lot for this volunteership.

Kudos to the Community Festival team & it was a grand success.
